Thank you for your interest in Southeastern’sCertification-Only Alternate Program for GradesK-12. This program is 100% online  and requires successful completion of 30 graduate level hours of Education courses.  Included in the 30 hours are 2 semesters of student teaching or an internship of 2 semesters.  Internships are available for students who are employed as full-time teachers of record in the content area in which they are seeking certification.  To learn more, please visit the following link on our website.

Practitioner's License

Students enrolled in one of Southeastern's Alternative Programs may be eligible for a Practitioner License which allows candidates to teach while working to obtain their alternate certification.

    1. Application for Admission to the Alternate Certification Program
    2. Official Transcripts of All Universities Attended
    3. Praxis I and/or II Scores (must be within last 10 years)
    4. If ACT or SAT scores will be used for admission, official verification of those scores must also be submitted (Scores must be within the last 10 years). To request a copy of your scores, contact:

    5. Documentation of Practitioner License eligibility (if applicable)
  2. Apply for Graduate Admission through the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. This office will also require official copies of transcripts from all universities attended, as well as immunization records. Be sure to note application fees and deadlines.

Foreign Credentials

Students with foreign credentials must have the equivalent of a regionally accredited baccalaureate degree from the United States. You may choose to submit your credentials to the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), Office of International Education Services or World Education Services (WES). The applicant shall submit his/her credentials to AACRAO or WES for evaluation, at the following addresses:

The original evaluation from AACRAO  or WES on "Script Safe" paper must be submitted to the Southeastern Office of Graduate Admissions upon application to the university, and must include a course-by-course evaluation. Only AACRAO or WES will be accepted by the Louisiana Department of Education for teacher certification.

The evaluation of credentials by the Graduate Admissions Office must verify that the student has the equivalent of a United States college baccalaureate degree. The evaluation must also evaluate credits in terms of Southeastern equivalent courses, particularly in the areas of English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The student must complete, with a 2.5 GPA, the General Education requirements for Louisiana teachers as specified in Bulletin 746 for the appropriate certification being taught. After General Education requirements are completed, the student may be admitted to the Alternate Certification Program.
