Scholarships

Scholarships in the College of Education are available to all teacher education majors regardless of your degree’s home college. We are fortunate to have donors and supporters who are passionate about education and have provided funding for student scholarships. In order to apply, each student must meet the eligibility criteria as defined in each scholarship.  

Stephanie Cheramie Simoneaux Scholarship

  • Must be an undergraduate student majoring in any discipline with the intent of becoming an educator in middle, secondary, or grades K-12.
  • Must be in good standing with the University.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who desire to teach 7th, 8th, or 9th grades
  • Preference will be given to applicants involved in student organizations providing service to the University or community.

College of Education Senior Scholarship

  • Must be an undergraduate student majoring in any field of education.
  • Must have a cumulative grade point of average of 3.0 or better.
  • Must have earned a minimum of 90 hours (no less than 30 hours at Southeastern) by the end of the current semester.
  • The scholarship is awarded for one year, and student may reapply for a second year of funding.
  • Applicant must maintain a 3.0 GPA and must remain enrolled full-time in an education degree/concentration.

James Edward “Buddy” Bodker, Sr. and Aubrey H. Bodker Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a graduate of Ponchatoula High School.
  • Must have successfully completed a minimum of 30 hours with a cumulative GPA between 2.2 and 2.9.
  • Must be majoring in any field of education.
  • Must show promise and a strong desire to complete his/her education and become a teacher.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

Joyce Helms Memorial Scholarship in Special Education

  • Must be a full-time student majoring in Special Education.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
  • Junior standing is preferred, but not required.
  • Must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or better as a full-time student majoring in special education.
  • The award for a second semester is contingent upon the above.

Mollie Robicheaux Branch Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Must have successfully completed 30 academic hours with a grade point average of 3.0 or better.
  • Must be an education major, in any discipline.
  • Preference will be given to students from the Central area in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The Randy and Barbara Moffett Endowed Scholarship in Education

  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Must be a full-time student majoring in elementary or secondary education.
  • Must have achieved full SARTE status.
  • Must maintain a 2.75 grade point average as a full-time student in education.
  • Student may keep this scholarship for eight semesters if above conditions are met.

  • Must be a junior majoring in any discipline of education.
  • Must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
  • Applications must be submitted to the Dean of the College of Education for his/her signature.
