Scholarships


Dorothy Blossman Scholarships in English:

Two awards of $500 per year, given to sophomores or juniors pursuing full-time a Bachelor of Arts degree in English (any curriculum) in order to encourage continuing excellence in studies. Applicants must have completed 30-85 hours toward their degree and have achieved at least a 3.5 average GPA in English courses. Applicants must include at least one recommendation letter by an English faculty member, along with the student's statement explaining the pursuit of the degree (approx. 500 words) with their application.

D Vickers Memorial Scholarship in English:

An award of up to $250 per semester for one academic year (total $500), given to a full-time major pursuing the Bachelor of Arts degree in English (any curriculum), who registers for at least one Honors course per year, and who maintains an outstanding record of academic achievement (with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA) through the year of the award. To qualify, students must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA through the semester of application, have previously registered for at least one Honors class, and accumulated at least 30 hours by the semester when the award becomes effective. Applications must include recommendation letter by the Honors Director, and one by an English faculty member, along with the student's statement of goals and aspirations (approx. 500 words). The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings, and an individual may receive this scholarship only once (up to one year).

E. P. and Mildred Kuhn Excellence in Liberal Arts Scholarship:

An award of $425 per semester ($850 per year), given to a student majoring in Liberal Arts Studies. Preference is given to residents of Ponchatoula, but all Liberal Arts Studies majors are welcome to apply.

John V. Coumes Memorial Scholarship:

An award of up to $500, given to a student in a 200 or 300 level Literature class, who best combines a passion for literature with insight into its illumination of the human condition. The one-time annual award is designated for purposeful study and/or travel abroad or in the U.S.A.

Senior English Scholarship:

An award of up to $425 for one academic year ($212.50 per semester), given to the graduating senior in the English Department with the highest cumulative GPA that semester. Awarded at the beginning of each fall and spring semester to a full-time English major who has filed for graduation prior to the beginning of the semester in which he/she is scheduled to graduate.
