Health and Human Sciences
The Department of Health and Human Sciences offers four undergraduate programs in communication sciences and disorders, family and consumer sciences, health systems management, and social work, as well as two graduate programs in communication sciences and disorders and counseling.
The mission of the Department of Health and Human Sciences is to prepare students to be highly effective service providers in the areas of counseling, social work, family and consumer sciences, child life education, health systems management, and speech-language pathology. Our diverse Department strives to enhance the lives and health of our students and the people of Southeast Louisiana through the acquisition and sharing of knowledge and the application of skills
To promote our mission, the Department upholds the following core values:
1.To envision learning as a lifelong pursuit and ongoing intellectual collaboration with our students
2.To offer inclusive, enriching learning environments that are sustained by evidence-based teaching and supported by current educational technology
3.To establish and expand meaningful partnerships between the Department and entities within the surrounding communities

Hands-on learning is emphasized through internships, service learning, and clinical practicums
The Discovery Project, supported through the social work program, is a family resource center providing services to families in south Louisiana
