About the Department

Welcome to the Department of Languages and Communication. Here you will find a faculty devoted to teaching excellence and scholarly contributions. Our degree programs feature innovative curricula that prepare our majors for careers in the 21st century.


The department aims to provide:

  • High-quality instruction

  • Authentic cultural interaction through short-term and long-term (semester and year-long) study abroad programs, internships in local companies and service learning opportunities on- and off-campus

  • Linguistic and cultural expertise in support of the university as a whole, local and regional schools, and the wider community

  • A broad range of scholarly work

The department boasts chapters of the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Society of Collegiate Journalists (Phi Delta Epsilon chapter) and the Lambda Pi Eta (Epsilon Rho chapter) and Phi Sigma Iota honorary societies. Students are also active in the Press club, Language clubs and the Organizational Communication Association.
