Dr. Irina Cunev
Instructor of Piano, Accompanying Area Coordinator
Dr. Irina Cunev, an active collaborative artist and educator, joined the faculty at Southeastern Louisiana University in 2006 as a staff accompanist, collaborating with vocal and instrumental studios and providing accompaniment for faculty, students and guest artists recitals on a regular basis. Currently she serves as a Piano Instructor and Accompanying Area Coordinator at Southeastern.
A native from Republic of Moldova, Dr. Cunev has earned her Bachelor of Music Degree from Moldova State University of Arts. Upon completion of her BM degree, Dr. Cunev has served as a full time Piano Instructor and a staff accompanist at the State Liceum of Music “Alexei Stircea” in Chisinau, Moldova. In 2002, she was invited to serve as a Piano Instructor at Liu Ning Piano School in Shenyang, China, where she enjoyed teaching talented students from all over the region, tutoring local piano teachers and maintaining an active performing schedule with solo appearances in Shenyang Conservatory of Music and Dalian University, China. In 2004, she moved to Louisiana where she pursued Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from Southeastern Louisiana University, and Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance from Louisiana State University, while working extensively in the field of accompanying and private teaching. In addition to her current piano faculty position at Southeastern, Dr. Cunev’s regular appointments include Piano Instructor position at the Southeastern Community Music School, yearly engagements as Guest Collaborative Artist at Gulf Coast Steinway Society Music Festival, staff pianist positions at Northshore Performing Art Society in Covington, LA and St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, LA.
