Resident Composer for Choral Division
Brian Martinez is an active conductor, singer, music educator, percussionist, and composer/arranger. He currently teaches choir, general music, and percussion at Lakewood Elementary in St. Charles Parish Louisiana and previously taught at R.K. Smith Middle School where he revived the choral program into an award winning ensemble during his seven years as director. At the collegiate level, he is an adjunct instructor at Southeastern Louisiana University where he has served as the director of the University Chorus/Northshore Chorale. He also serves as the director for the Louisiana Ovation Vocal Ensemble which provides quality performances of choral music to the St. Charles Parish region.
As a performer, Mr. Martinez can be heard singing in the New Orleans Vocal Arts Chorale (NOVA) under the direction of Dr. Meg Frazier, and sang previously as a member of the New Orleans Opera Chorus from 2009 - 2014. He is often sought out as a percussionist to accompany choirs and also enjoys playing for musicals and subbing for local orchestras. He has served as an adjudicator for local music festivals and as a guest clinician for honor choirs throughout the Southeastern Louisiana region.
Mr. Martinez holds a Master of Music Education/Choral Conducting from Florida State University where he studied with Dr. Judy Bowers, Dr. Kevin Fenton and Dr. Andre Thomas. He also holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a Teaching Certificate K-12 from Southeastern Louisiana University. Mr. Martinez is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, National Association of Music Education, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
