Dr. Place has performed with numerous orchestras, wind ensembles, and chamber groups. He is currently Third Trumpet in the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and Third Trumpet in the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra in Biloxi, Mississippi. Other groups he has performed with include the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Jefferson Performing Arts Society, Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Allen Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra at Park Cities, and Little Rock Wind Symphony. Additionally he can be heard on recordings with the University of North Texas Wind Symphony, University of North Texas Symphonic Band, and the University of North Texas Baroque Orchestra. As an active Baroque Trumpet performer, Dr. Place has performed with the Orchestra of New Spain and the University of North Texas Baroque Orchestra. In 2005 Dr. Place won the Fantini Division of the Baroque Trumpet Competition held every year as a part of the National Trumpet Competition in Fairfax, Virginia.
During the summer, Dr. Place serves on the faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan. He had adjudicated for the National Trumpet Competition, Louisiana Music Educators Association All-State Band & Orchestra, and the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Band & Orchestra. Dr. Place also maintains an active performing and teaching schedule around the United States. Dr. Place is a frequent contributor to the International Trumpet Guild Journal as a reviewer of recordings, new music, and books.
Dr. Place currently services as the undergraduate coordinator for the Music Unit in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, the departmental webmaster, and performs with the University's brass quintet, Southeastern Brass. He also developed the 100% online section of the Introduction to Music course. Dr. Place is a member of the International Trumpet Guild, the College Music Society, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
