- CAMPUS LIFE
Southeastern's university-district partnership with Ascension Parish, St. Charles Parish and Tangipahoa Parish school districts was awarded an innovation grant ($92,000) from the US PREP National Center to address Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). We are committed to the collaborative development of a K-12 SEL curriculum as part of a multi-faceted approach to develop and implement a competency-based program for teacher candidates (TC) with impact on K-12 students.
SEL is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions (CASEL, 2016).
The collaborative build on current SEL elements from Responsive Classroom (RC) and Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) with Six Seconds EQ Self-Science Process as the theoretical framework. The curriculum will include SEL strategies such as interactive modeling, morning meeting, engaging academics, establishing classroom rules/logical consequences, classroom management, teacher language, and managing behavior.
