The Master of Music degree is granted in Music Theory and in Music Performance.


Music Theory (33 hours in Music)

Theory (to include Music 661 and 770) (18 hours)
Music history and literature (to include Music 641) (6 hours)
Music 555 (3 hours)
Ensembles (to include Music 643) (3 hours)
Music electives (3 hours)

Total 33 hours

 

Music Performance (36 hours in Music)

Music theory (to include Music 661) (6 hours)
Music history and literature (to include Music 641) (6 hours)
Music 555 (3 hours)
Applied music 600-level (9 hours)
Music 642 (a major project and paper related to the graduate recital) (3 hours)
Ensembles (to include one [1] hour of Music 643) (3 hours)
Music 650 (3 hours)
Music electives (3 hours)

Total 36 hours

 

Each graduate student is required to enroll in a major ensemble during each semester of full-time registration, and each graduate performance major is required to enroll in the appropriate applied music course during each semester of full-time registration, as per the “Ensemble Experience Requirements” policy detailed in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences section of the Catalog (Department of Music and Dramatic Arts). No more than three (3) hours of Music 643 and/or ensemble will be considered within the degree plan, though more may be accumulated as a full-time student.


The candidate's committee may require additional coursework.
