Admission to ISAT

Regular Admission Requirements

Successful applicants to the ISAT program must have completed an undergraduate degree program and have had at least 30 semester hours in any combination of chemistry, computer science, industrial technology, mathematics, or physics to enter the program. These applicants must have:

  1. A cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75

  2. A combined Verbal and Quantitative Score on the Graduate Record Exam
    of at least 280.

  3. Transcripts of previous undergraduate or graduate work.
  4. A letter of introduction stating the applicant's research background, their
    ideas for research to perform during the ISAT program, and their plans to
    extend their work in the ISAT program to future endeavors.  This letter
    should be sent as an attachment to an e-mail sent to the following
    address: ISAT@southeastern.edu
  5. Three (3) letters of recommendation.  At least one of these three letters
    should attest to the applicant's research abilities.  These letters should
    be sent as attachments to an e-mail sent to the following address:

  6. A commitment from one Southeastern's ISAT faculty members to advise on
    the applicant's research during the applicant's tenure in the ISAT program.


Conditional Admission Requirements

Applicants who fail to meet any of the above criteria could still be granted conditional admission
into the ISAT program. Conditional admission may be granted with less than 30 semester hours
in Chemistry, Computer Science, Industrial Technology, Mathematics, and/or Physics.

Candidates for conditional admission will have

  1. Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for
    all undergraduate work 

  2. Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale for
    all upper division undergraduate work

  3. Transcripts of previous undergraduate or graduate work
  4. A letter of introduction stating the applicant's reasearch background, their
    ideas for research to perform during the ISAT program, and their plans to
    extend their work in the ISAT program to future endeavors.  This letter
    should be sent as an attachment to an email sent to the following address:

  5. Three (3) letters of recommendation.  At least one of these three

Candidates admitted under conditional status must maintain a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0 during their first 12 hours to remain in the program.

Proficiencies

All students admitted to the program will be asked to demonstrate proficiency in calculus and three of either chemistry, physics, computer science or industrial technology during their first year in the program. Proficiency will be comparable to the level of knowledge of having passed an introductory undergraduate course or courses in the area.

Graduate Assistantships

Students seeking Graduate Assistantships for the Fall Semester should apply by March 31st.

Students seeking Graduate Assistantships for the Spring Semester should apply by September 30th.
