Writing Marathon on Muses

"Finding your Muse in New Orleans"
A Writing Retreat
Featuring Kim Stafford and the New Orleans Writing Marathon experience
July 14-18, 2014
The French Quarter, New Orleans

The Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project invites NWP sites and their writers to attend "Finding your Muse in New Orleans," a Writing Retreat/Writing Marathon in the French Quarter featuring Writer in Residence Kim Stafford, Monday-Friday, July 14-18, 2014. A brief schedule is attached. Further details are available at: www.writingmarathon.com.

"Finding your Muse in New Orleans" will feature Kim Stafford, author of The Muses Among Us: Eloquent Listening and Other Pleasures of the Writer's Craft, as guest Writer in Residence for the entire week. Stafford will lead daily workshop sessions to help writers find their muses and focus their writing in stories, poems, essays, memoirs, and other formats. In addition, Richard Louth, SLWP site director and founder of the New Orleans Writing Marathon, will introduce and lead daily writing marathons with the assistance of experienced marathon leaders and Teacher Consultants. Participants will not only have ample time as writers to work on their craft and to write during marathons, but will also have the opportunity to join response groups, revise their work, and submit it (before leaving) to a radio show and a collection to be published in the journal Louisiana Literature. "Finding your Muse in New Orleans" is designed to feel like a writing retreat, mini-institute, marathon, and conference all in one. It's meant to be a chance for writers to get away from the workaday world, to have time to write about whatever they want, and to associate with other dedicated writers in the city that inspired Faulkner and Tennessee Williams.

Events include:
- Workshops led daily by Kim Stafford on "Finding your Muse in New Orleans"
- The New Orleans Writing Marathon
- Read-arounds, recordings for radio, and socials at the end of each day
- Response groups for those wanting to publish in Louisiana Literature
- Session by experienced TC's on "Writing Marathons for Sites, Teachers, and Writers"
- Opportunities to publish about "Muses" in Louisiana Literature and on KSLU radio
- A chance to join a community of dedicated NWP writers in an inspiring city
