The Southeastern Writing Center is proud to feature Alex Award and Shirley Jackson Award winning author Kevin Wilson and his short story collection tunneling to the center of the earth for the Spring 2016 Common Read.

In the weeks leading up to the Common Read Main Event, the Writing Center hosted several Speaker Series events. This semester, the Speaker Series consited of panels chaired by Southeastern professors and guest speakers, who discussed and analyzed aspects of Kevin Wilson's various works.
The Writing Center hosted two panels in the week preceding the Main Event. The first (right), "The Stories Behind the Stories of Kevin Wilson," featured Andree Crosby, Chance Harvey, and April Lenoir. The second (left), "Uncovering the Uncanny: Tunneling into Wilson's Craft", featured Carin Chapman, Kent Wascom, and Thomas Parrie.
Common Read Main Event

Students read papers and present projects relating to tunneling to the center of the earth.
Throughout the day, Kevin Wilson took part in several presentations and panels. At 11:00 AM, he engaged Southeastern students in a Q&A session. Later, he and his wife Leigh Anne Couch, poet and former editor of the Sewanee Review, discussed publishing practices with English Majors in the Writing Center. The final event of the eventing, held in the Student Union Theater, allowed students and visitors to hear Wilson read from his works and answer further questions.
