Grants
Grants are a form of need-based financial aid that does not need to be repaid. Eligibility
is determined by the information you provide on your FAFSA. Grants are awarded by
the Federal and State governments and Southeastern (Institutional Grants).
Federal Grants
Federal Pell Grant
Federal Pell Grants are awarded to eligible undergraduate students who have not earned
a bachelor’s degree and who possess financial need as determined by completion of
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All students meeting eligibility requirements are offered the Federal Pell Grant.
Eligibility:
- Must have a qualifying Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as determined by the FAFSA.
- Recipients must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress.
- Students are limited to receive the equivalent of twelve semesters at full-time enrollment
in Pell grant. Review more information regarding Pell Lifetime Eligibility. (LEU) - Award eligibility varies based on Enrollment Status.
Award Range:
The maximum award is $7,395 for the 2023-2024 award year. Award amounts are determined
by the federal Pell Grant Schedule which accounts for EFC and enrollment status.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is available to undergraduate
Federal Pell Grant recipients with high financial need. Preference is given to students
who are attending on a full-time (12 credit hours) basis and availability is based
on annual federal allocations. This fund does not require a separate application.
It is awarded through the standard process based on the FAFSA.
Eligibility:
- Students must be a Pell Grant recipient.
- High need students working on their first undergraduate degree.
- Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Award Range:
$500 – $1000 for the award year. Award amount based on enrolled hours and availability
of funds.
Federal TEACH Grant
Grant Program helps students who plan to teach in high-need fields at the secondary
or elementary level.
- Serve as a full-time teacher for four (4) years
- Teach a high -need field/subject
- Bilingual education and English language acquisition
- Foreign language
- Mathematics
- Reading specialist
- Science
- Special Education
- Any other field that has been identified as high-need by the federal government, a
state government, or a local education agency, and that is included in the annual Teacher Shortage Area Nationwide Listing. - Serve in a public or private elementary or secondary school
- Teach in a school that serves low-income students
Failure to meet the requirements listed above will result in the Federal TEACH Grant
funds received converted to Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans. Students will then
be required to repay the loan with interest. Interest is charged on this loan from
the date the grant was disbursed. Please review more information about the Federal

Eligibility:
- Students must complete the FAFSA.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
- Must have SARTE status
- Must be enrolled in a TEACH Grant eligible degree program, and enroll in coursework
necessary to begin a career in teaching or plan to complete such coursework. Contact
the Office of Financial Aid to verify your degree program meets the TEACH Grant requirements. - You must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.25.
- You must complete a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve and TEACH Entrance Counseling.
Award Range:
Up to $4,000 per year to undergraduate (first bachelor’s degree) and graduate students.

Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant (ISAG)
A student whose parent or guardian was a member of the Armed Forces of the United
States and died as a result of performing military service in Iraq or Afghanistan
after September 11, 2001 may be eligible for up to the maximum Federal Pell Grant
each year regardless of financial need.
In addition, students who meet criteria for Pell Grant eligibility may also be eligible
for increased funding from the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant program,
Subsidized Direct Loan program, and Federal Work-Study program.
Eligibility:
- Complete the FAFSA and the FAFSA transaction must contain an indicator from the Department of Defense
confirming the date of your parent’s death. (This process occurs automatically upon
completion of the FAFSA) - Students must have been less than 24 years of age OR enrolled at an institution of
higher education at the time of their parent’s death. - Recipients must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress
If eligibility is confirmed, there are two different programs for eligible children
of soldiers. Students with a Pell eligible Expected Family Contribution (EFC) will
receive an increase in their Federal Pell Grant. Students with an EFC that is not
Pell eligible will see the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant posted to their financial
aid offer.

Award Range:
The maximum award amount is $7,395 for the 2023-2024 award year.
State Grants
Louisiana GO Grant
The purpose of this program is to provide a need-based component to the state’s financial
aid plan to support non-traditional and low to moderate-income students who need additional
aid to afford the cost of attending college.
Eligibility:
- Complete the FAFSA
- Louisiana Resident as reported on the FAFSA
- Receive a federal Pell grant
- Have remaining financial need after deducting Estimated Family Contribution (EFC)
and all federal/state/institutional grant or scholarship aid (gift aid) from student’s
Cost of Attendance (COA) - Gift aid including Go Grant cannot exceed 60% of need based eligibility
- Be a student enrolled in an eligible Louisiana institution on at least a half-time
basis (minimum 6 hours)
Award Range:
$1,250 – $2,500 per year. Award amount based on enrolled hours and availability of funds.
Institutional Grants
HB 152/ACT 293 Grant
HB 152/Act 293 grants are awarded to eligible undergraduate students who have not
earned a bachelor’s degree and who possess financial need as determined by completion
of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Eligibility:
- Students must be a Pell Grant recipient.
- Students receiving the LA Go Grant are ineligible for the HB142/Act 293 grant
- Preference given to full-time enrollment
- Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Award Range:
$500 – $1000 for the award year. Award amount based on enrolled hours and availability
of funds.
