Return to Campus Operations - Stage Three

Stage 3 is the third step in operations to reopen campus and follows the Governor’s decision to move Louisiana to Phase 3 under the White House COVID-19 guidelines. The Governor’s new Executive Order is effective September 11. As was the case with Stages 1 and 2, the University will, at a minimum, follow the guidance of the Louisiana Department of Health and the current Governor’s Order. Accordingly, division heads will ensure the following elements of Stage 3 campus operations are communicated and vigorously enforced:

  1. The health and safety of faculty, staff, students and all others on campus remain the paramount objectives.

  2. Employees who have not yet returned to campus should do so with the exception of those with approved accommodations and those whose work circumstances are restricted due to facility or operational issues reflected in formal plans approved by the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.

  3. Students should continue to be provided as much face-to-face instructional opportunities as safely possible - instructional plans for academic courses established in Stage 2 should continue largely unchanged.

  4. Extramural activities should be carefully expanded with strict enforcement of safety requirements.

  5. Opportunities for visitors, contractors and patrons to be present on campus should see limited expansion, with enforcement of the Governor’s Phase 3 restrictions and campus safety requirements (face masks, distancing, etc.).

  6. Face coverings should continue to be a universal campus requirement as spelled out in University policy.

  7. Social distancing will be practiced in all circumstances, ensuring a buffer between individuals of at least six feet.

  8. Personal protective measures will continue to be employed, including appropriate hand washing/hand sanitization and coughing/sneezing protocols. Necessary safety supplies as determined by the Office of Environmental Health and Safety should be ensured.

  9. Frequently touched surfaces in high traffic/usage areas should continue to be routinely cleaned and disinfected with frequency of cleaning determined based on level of usage.

  10. Travel should continue to be limited to that which is essential, subject to approval of the division head.

  11. All employees, students and visitors should continue to be regularly reminded to self-check for potential symptoms of COVID-19, including cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, new loss of smell or taste, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

  12. Employees who exhibit any symptoms of illness should notify their supervisors and Human Resources, not return to campus and seek appropriate medical attention. Employees who develop symptoms while on campus should notify their supervisors and Human Resources, leave campus and seek appropriate medical attention.

  13. Students who exhibit any symptoms of illness should follow the campus COVID-19 protocol at http://www.southeastern.edu/about/safe_campus/covid-19/students/exp-protocol/index.html.

  14. Employees who have COVID-19 related circumstances that may impact their ability to be physically present for work on campus should notify their supervisors who should make the relevant division head aware and seek guidance from Human Resources regarding relevant leave and/or Alternate Work Arrangement policies.
