Board of Directors Nominee Bios

The Southeastern Alumni Association Board of Directors serves as representatives of our entire alumni base. They assist in promoting the mission of the Association in tandem with that of the University. Members of the Board promote pride, help in student recruitment efforts, act as mentors and preserve traditions of the University.

The Alumni Association is conducting its ANNUAL ELECTION to fill three (3) officer positions for a one-year term, and four (4) at-large positions for two-year terms. All active, dues-paying members in good standing are eligible to vote. We encourage you to participate in selecting our future leadership and help the Board represent the diversity of our alumni community.

All of the following candidates have shown a commitment to Southeastern through their volunteer activity and support of key University initiatives. Dues paying members, please review the candidates’ bios below and then cast your vote via email ballot. The deadline to cast your vote is at 11:59 PM Central Standard Time on Thursday, April 30, 2020.

 

PRESIDENT (Vote for 1)

Louis “Patrick” Brazan III (’05)

Patrick is a 2005 graduate of Southeastern, earning his B.A. in Organizational Communications. He was very involved on campus, from being a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, IPC President, the 2004 Greek Man of the Year and Orientation Leader, to being honored with the Green S Award for contributing to student life on campus. A resident of Hammond, he currently works as a Field Representative at Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Group and is a past board member of NAIFA. He currently serves as the President of the Delta Tau Delta Alumni chapter and as a member of the Southeastern Alumni Board of Directors. Patrick shows his Lion Pride by attending alumni tailgates and volunteering at many

 

PRESIDENT-ELECT (Vote for 1)

Gina Giacone Laird (’85)

Gina graduated from Southeastern in 1985 with a B.A. in Management and Finance and was a member of the Lionette dance team, a Delta Tau Delta Fraternity sweetheart on the Homecoming Court, served as Philanthropic Chair with Alpha Omega Pi Sorority and was a student worker with the Alumni Association. A resident of Baton Rouge, Gina is Senior Vice President, Benefit Operations Division at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. Gina currently serves on the Board of Directors for Southeastern Alumni and TriZetto Customer Group, and is active with Senior Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, St. Joseph’s Academy and is a Big Buddy Program mentor. Gina shows her Lion Pride by serving on the Alumni Association Finance Committee and supporting the Southeastern Foundation.

 

TREASURER (Vote for 1)

Dennis “Danny” Wallette (’84)

Danny graduated from Southeastern in 1984 with a B.S. in Biology and served in the Student Senate and as a Dorm President. He currently serves as Director of Tangipahoa Mosquito Abatement District. Danny has lengthy experience as a treasurer for Louisiana Mosquito Control Association with over $500,000 in cash reserves and was instrumental in that organization funding an endowed scholarship at Southeastern. He has extensive leadership experience, including a current position on the Alumni Association Board, as well as the Lion Athletic Association Board and is Past President of both the Red Stick and Tangipahoa Alumni Chapters as well as the Hammond Ponchatoula Sunriser Rotary Club. Danny shows his Lion Pride by being a Lifetime Member of the Alumni Association, attending many Southeastern events, volunteers whenever asked and regularly recruits students to choose Southeastern. 

 

MEMBERS AT LARGE (Vote for 4)

Michelle Blum Gallo (’84)

Michelle is a Southeastern graduate of 1984, earning her B.A. in Sociology and currently serves as Executive Director of CrimeStoppers. Michelle is active in the community, serving as President of Hammond Rotary in 2017 and still serves on the Shamrock Run and Christmas Parade Committees. She is also a past president of the Greater Hammond Chamber of Commerce and has volunteered with Hospice, United Way and the Hammond High Magnet School PTA. With her son currently attending Southeastern, she has shown her Lion Pride by supporting the University through her previous position at the Hammond Daily Star, attending many athletic events and always wearing her green and gold on Lion Up Tuesdays.

 

Miles Garrett (‘06)

Miles graduated from Southeastern with a B.A. in Marketing in 2006. A resident of Hammond, he currently serves as Director of Development for the LSU Foundation in Baton Rouge. He is a member of the Delta Tau Delta Alumni Chapter, currently serving as Secretary. When relocating back to Louisiana from Maryland, Miles and his family chose to settle and put down roots in Hammond because of their love of Southeastern. Miles shows his Lion Pride by enjoying frequent walks on campus with his family. 

Mark Lawrence (’11, ’12)

Mark is a double graduate of Southeastern, earning an A.A. and B.A. in General Studies. During his senior year, he organized and served as president of the Veterans Club. Mark is a resident of Hammond and retired from the U.S. Army in 1986. He has served as Lt. Commander for the Disabled American Veterans, as well as Hammond Veterans Memorial and the American Legion Post #5. Mark shows his Lion Pride by being a Lifetime Member of the Alumni Association, attending many campus events, always in green and gold, and proudly wearing his Southeastern ring. 

Peter Lewis (’02, ’04, ’06, ’19)

Peter has multiple degrees from Southeastern, including an A.A. in General Studies and B.A. degrees in Business Management, Human Resource Management and Marketing. During his college career, he was active in Society for Human Resource Managers, Future Business Leaders of Southeastern and the Southeastern Marketing Association. A resident of Covington, Peter is an independent insurance sales rep and was recently elected to serve as City Councilman, District A. He volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club and local schools and serves as president of Future Business Leaders of America. Peter shows his Lion Pride by speaking about the university and always wearing his green and gold.

Nakia Merrill (’03)

Nakia graduated from Southeastern with a B.A. in Communication in 2003. While in school he worked at the Office of Multicultural and International Student Affairs, became part of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and was a member of Project PULL, a mentoring program. A resident of Addison, Texas, he works as the Senior Manager, Visual Media at Cedar Valley College. A lifetime member of the Alumni Association, Nakia continues to show his Lion Pride out of state by helping charter the Dallas Forth Worth Alumni chapter, serves as chapter Vice President, and attending many sporting events, both in Hammond and across the region. He has served as an appointed member on the Alumni Board for the past year.

Richard Moran (’05)

Richard graduated from Southeastern in 2005 with his Associates in Applied Science with a concentration in Occupational Safety and Health. During his studies he was a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda leadership organization, Gamma Beta Phi honors organization, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the student American Society of Safety Engineers. A resident of Hammond, Richard works as Project Manager with Pala Interstate in Baton Rouge. He is a member of Golden Pride, the Music Alumni chapter, and serves as a referee at the FeLions’ Champagne Bingo fundraiser. He shows his Lion Pride by cooking for the Music Alumni during Rock n’ Roar, various sports teams and alumni events and the marching band at every home game. You will see him at many sporting events, encouraging others to come back to Southeastern for a second degree. He has served as an appointed member on the Alumni Board for the past year.

Michael Sistrunk (’04)

Michael is a Southeastern graduate of 2004, earning his B.A. in Business Management. During his studies, he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, was involved with the Interfraternity Council, and was a part of the American Marketing Association. He previously worked at Southeastern as the Annual Fund Coordinator in the Development Foundation. A resident of New Orleans, Michael is currently serving as the Patriots Circle Manager at the National WWII Museum. He is an active member of the New Orleans Alumni chapter as well as the Delta Tau Delta Alumni chapter. Michael likes to show his Lion Pride by attending many sporting events and attending the Coaches Caravan.

Dr. Kenneth Terrell (’87)

Kenneth graduated from Southeastern in 1987 with his B.A. in Marketing. He later went on to earn his M.S.A from Central Michigan University as well as his Ph.D. from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. While a student at Southeastern, Kenneth joined Omega Psi Phi fraternity and served as chapter president. He also played intramural sports and helped his fellow Greek life peers with math tutoring. He is currently a resident of Cedar Hill, Texas, serving as the Deputy Sheriff of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office for past seven years. Kenneth gives back by volunteering at Boy Scouts of America, mentoring Omega Psi Phi students, serving on the Board of Directors for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Internship program and the Grand Prairie City Council Sub-committee. Kenneth has shown his Lion Pride by attending Southeastern’s Homecoming events for more than 20 years.
