Joy Jackson Memorial Endowment for Humanities

Dr. Joy Juanita Jackson (1928-1996) was an acclaimed educator, historian, and author. Dr. Jackson, a professor at Southeastern since 1966, also had been director of the school's Center for Regional Studies since 1980 and the university archivist since 1981. She was the first female elected president of the Louisiana Historical Association and was awarded the James William Rivers Prize from the University of Southwestern Louisiana Center for Louisiana Studies in recognition of her contributions to Louisiana culture. She established her scholarship through a bequest for a deserving senior majoring in Humanities with a demonstrated interest in the Florida Parishes region.

The Frederick William Reimers Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Cultural Resource Management

  • Minimum 3.25 high school GPA 
  • Must be a Cultural Resource Management major 
  • Student must be of moral character that exemplifies the spirit and intent of Frederick William Reimers 
  • Student must submit a written statement and include a letter of recommendation with application 
  • Student must be enrolled full time 
  • If minimum 3.0 GPA is maintained the scholarship may be kept for up to 8 semesters 
  • Up to five (5) scholarships may be awarded each semester

E.P. and Mildred Kuhn Excellence in Liberal Arts Endowed Scholarship

  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.5 
  • Resident of Ponchatoula 
  • Must be a Liberal Arts major 
  • Retain: Continue to meet the above criteria

Elliott Courtright Family Endowed Scholarship in English

  • Minimum 3.0 high school GPA 
  • Majoring in English 
  • Available to beginning freshmen 
  • Good moral character 
  • Full time student 
  • Need may be considered 
  • May keep for 8 semesters 
  • Retention: Continue to meet above criteria and maintain 2.75 overall GPA

The Senior English Scholarship

  • The award is one-time, one-semester scholarship given out at the beginning of each fall & spring semester to the graduating senior in the English Dept. with the highest cumulative GPA that semester 
  • Student must be a major in the English Dept
  • Must have filed for graduation prior to the beginning of the semester in which he/she is scheduled to graduate
  • The cumulative GPA includes all grades up to the final, graduation semester
  • The student must be a full time student

Department of History and Political Science

The Gregory Caballero Memorial Endowed Scholarship in History

  • This scholarship is intended to support a student who is not qualified academically for TOPS 
  • The student must be a resident of Louisiana 
  • The student may be a female or male student who is majoring in History 
  • The student must be of good moral character 
  • Financial need will be considered 
  • Student must be enrolled full time 
  • Scholarship may be retained for 8 semesters

Department of Psychology

The William B. Abernathy Endowed Scholarship in Industrial Organizational Psychology

  • Student must be enrolled in a BA or MA
  • Psychology program with a concentration in Industrial Organizational Psychology
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Student must be enrolled full time at Southeastern
  • Application with essay is required

Department of Music & Performing Arts

The Blair Abene Miss Southeastern 2006-2007, Endowed Scholarship

Joe Abene created this scholarship to honor his daughter after she was crowned Miss Southeastern Louisiana University in 2006. Miss Abene then moved on the become Miss Louisiana that same year. The scholarship is for a student majoring in vocal performance who is of the same good moral character as the former Miss Louisiana.

The Herbert E. Cagle Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Music

  • Minimum 3.5 high school GPA
  • Student must be a Music Education Major and plan to teach in public schools
  • Student must play a string, woodwind, brass or percussion instrument
  • Student must be of moral character consistent with the talent and intent of Herbert E. Cagle
  • Student must be enrolled full time at Southeastern 
  • Retention: 8 semesters if criteria are met and 3.25 GPA is maintained

  • Minimum 3.0 college GPA, minimum 3.2 high school GPA 
  • Majoring or planning to major in music

  • Student must be enrolled full time at Southeastern 
  • Scholarship may be retained for 8 semesters if criteria are met and 2.75 GPA is maintained

 Holly and Smith Architects Inc. APAC Excellence in Visual Arts or Music

 
  • Graduate of a high school in one of the following parishes: Tangipahoa, St. Tammany, or West Feliciana, Ascension or Livingston 
  • Minimum 3.0 high school GPA 
  • Major in Visual Arts or Music 
  • Retain: May keep for four years provided the student continues to major in Visual Arts or Music and maintains a 2.75 GPA 
  • Other: A Visual Arts student must leave a piece of their art for Southeastern 
  • Other: A Music major must perform a concert in his or her senior year

The Marjorie A. Morrison Endowed Scholarship in Music

  • Minimum 3.0 college GPA, or 3.25 high school GPA 
  • Student must be talented and have a passion for instrumental music with potential for a distinguished career in the field of music

  • Student must be of good moral character 
  • Student must be enrolled full time at Southeastern 
  • Retention: 8 semesters for undergraduate, 4 semesters for graduate students

Ralph R. Pottle Honor Scholarship in Music

  • Award is made to the outstanding freshman Music major at the end of the freshman year 
  • Selected on the basis of musicianship, scholarship, leadership and contribution to the Department of Music

  • Minimum 3.25 high school GPA or minimum 3.0 college GPA
  • Student must be majoring or planning to major in a degree program offered in the visual and performing arts areas

  • Retention: 8 semesters if criteria continue to be met and 2.75 GPA is maintained

The Margaret Waldrep Alford Memorial Scholarship in Foreign Languages

  • Minimum high school or college GPA of 3.0 
  • Must major in Foreign Languages 
  • Must be of good moral character 
  • Must be a full time student (12 hours) 
  • Retention: 8 semesters if criteria are met and 2.75 GPA is maintained

The Dr. Beatrice Baldwin and Michael D. Materne Endowed Scholarship for Language and Cultural Studies Abroad

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA 
  • Student must be a junior or a senior 
  • Student must submit an essay on why he/she wants to participate in study abroad and the significance of study abroad to academic career and goals 
  • Student must be enrolled in and complete a study abroad program that includes foreign language courses and cultural/historical studies as part of the program.

The Erna Deiglmayr Endowed Scholarship 

  • Overall 3.0 college GPA 
  • Preference will be given to a student majoring in French, however, a student with a French minor will be considered 
  • Student must have taken a minimum of 4 semesters of French

  • Retention: 6 semesters if all criteria are met and 3.0 GPA is maintained
