About the Department

Southeastern’s Department of Chemistry and Physics oversees undergraduate degree programs in chemistry and physics. We are committed to providing basic education in the physical sciences in the form of “service” courses as well as the academic and technical preparation of undergraduates planning careers in the physical sciences.

The Chemistry B.S. program offers a general curriculum with several concentrations, including the American Chemical Society (ACS) certified degree, a Biochemistry concentration, a Business and Industry concentration, and a Political Science/Pre-Law concentration. The Physics B.S. program is a general curriculum suitable for students interested in graduate study or a career in industry or engineering.

The department also provides undergraduates with research opportunities as part of active programs in both chemistry and physics. Almost all of the chemistry and physics majors participate in some form of research.

Chemistry is an integral part of the core education requirements provided by all Universities, and Southeastern is no exception. Housed in Pursley Hall, the Department of Chemistry and Physics supports the missions of the University and the newly formed College of Science and Technology. The Department is committed to providing basic education in the physical sciences in the form of “service” courses as well as the academic and technical preparation of undergraduates planning careers in the physical sciences. The Department provides two years of preparation for students in pre-engineering and pharmacy as well as the above mentioned baccalaureate level degrees in both Chemistry and Physics.
