Southeastern Foundation Disaster Relief Fund

The Disaster Relief Fund is a limited resource of donations from friends of the university for the purpose of assisting members of the Southeastern Family with short-term incidental needs. Southeastern students, faculty, and staff members impacted by the floods and in need of assistance can complete the brief application here.  Donations to the Disaster Relief Fund are greatly appreciated.

 

Lion Ride Share

When communicating with students, faculty and staff who suffered from flooding, one common concern was finding transportation to and from campus after having lost their vehicles. Lion Ride Share was created to help facilitate a means for those who could use a ride to class or even a ride home for the weekend to help with recovery work. Both those in need of a ride and those willing to ride share are invited to connect with fellow students, faculty and staff members. 

 

Team Tangipahoa
The Team Tangipahoa Facebook page is coordinating donations and relief efforts. Join the group for regular updates on how you can help or request help. You can also email amber.narro@southeastern.edu for more information.

 

Southeastern Food Bank - (985) 549-3850
Currently serving students in need and accepting donations from the community. Call Brendan Daigle at (985) 549-3850 or email brendan.daigle@southeastern.edu to confirm staffing before drop off.

Items needed: rice; pasta and pasta sauce; peanut butter; crackers; packaged meals (unrefrigerated microwavable meals, canned pasta meals, macaroni and cheese etc.); canned/cup fruit; drinks and drink mixes (bottled drinks, tea bags, powdered drink mixes); breakfast items such as boxed cold cereal, grits, oatmeal, toaster pastries, granola bars; other items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, can openers, school supplies, etc.

All items must be individual size. Please no large/family size containers - we cannot open and divide. The Southeastern Food Bank CANNOT accept green beans, corn, or green peas at this time

 

Boxes

The Southeastern Louisiana University Sustainability Center has cardboard boxes to give away if you need them. Pickup will be ongoing until supplies are out or there is no longer a need. Stop by and grab them, but don't forget that the facilities close at 4:30 p.m. and are not open on weekends. It closes at noon on Fridays.

Counseling Services

Counselors are available at the University Counseling Center for faculty, students and staff who may be feeling overwhelmed by flood related issues. Students can access the counseling center in the Student Union Annex or call (985) 549-3894 for appointments. As always, the University Counseling Center will work to fit crisis appointments in immediately.

Several disaster recovery support groups for students, faculty and staff will also meet in the Student Union, room 2202.  Licensed professional counselors will be on hand for crisis debriefing and general questions and concerns on the following dates:
Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 11 am - 12 pm
Wednesday, Aug. 24 from 11 am - 12 pm
Thursday, Aug,. 25 from 1 - 2 pm
Tuesday, Aug. 30 from 11 am - 12 pm
Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 11 am - 12 pm
Thursday, Sept. 1 from 1 - 2 pm.  

You can contact the Red Cross chapter at (225) 291-4533 and ask speak with a mental health professional. There is also a national Disaster Distress Hotline operated by SAMSA at 1-800-985-5990 or text TalkWithUs to 66746 to connect with a trained crisis counselor.

Our Daily Bread supplies food for 26 food banks in Tangipahoa Parish and can assist with meals. They are also in immediate need of monetary donations to serve our area. Donate online at www.ourdailybreadhammond.org.

JA of Hammond is working with local shelters to assess the needs of the surrounding community and provide essential items. Monetary donation and donated goods are being accepted and dispersed. 

 

St. Albert's Catholic Student Center - (985) 345-7206

St. Albert’s Catholic Student Center is currently accepting donations of the following items: bedding, pillows, sheets, toiletries. and cleaning supplies. There are not accepting clothing at this time. Please call to access the most up-to-date need or to find out pick-up times for those in need of items. Volunteers are welcome to assist with sorting items.

 

Hammond Red Cross Shelter

Hammond Westside Montessori in Hammond is collecting school supplies and uniforms to support the local schools that have flooded as well as students who have had their homes flooded.

North Cypress Fitness Center is collecting new towels, washclothes and bedding to distribute. To donate, drop off at the Center during regular business hours. 

 

Woodland Park Baptist Church - 1909 JW Davis in Hammond

The Church is accepting supplies (food, water, toiletries) and monetary donations (check to WPBC with memo: flood). Contact Mike Pittman 985-320-6131 for serving at the church (unloading/loading). Contact Michael Dillon to assist with deliveries 985-687-7240.

In the initial declaration, only four parishes were listed as affected. However, as events continued, more parishes were added. On August 16, 2016, a total of twelve parishes were listed as affected.
