Daigle Fifth Year Aid to Athletes Endowed Scholarship
Ralph Daigle, a successful businessman in the field of oil and energy and a former
four year Letterman in football at Southeastern established the scholarship in 2015
for student athletes who had completed their eligibility but had not yet earned their
degree.
The Ralph and Margaret Daigle Endowed Scholarship in Computer Science
The scholarship was established in 2016 with gifts from Ralph ‘70 and his wife, Margaret
Daigle. Ralph was a math major and physics minor at Southeastern. He and his wife
Margaret met at Southeastern and Ralph was named Distinguished Alumnus of the College
of Science in 2015. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance
to a Southeastern student majoring in Computer Science.
Ralph J. and Margaret S. Daigle Endowed Scholarship in Athletics (Football)
Ralph Daigle a four year Letterman in football established the scholarship when football
was returned to the Southeastern campus in 2003. It supports a Southeastern football
player who meets the NCAA guidelines for eligibility to play football.
Oma Dameron Endowment for Columbia Theatre
The endowment was established by Oma’s grandson, Stan Dameron. Oma was a teacher and
she had a nursery school in Hammond her entire adult life. It was Stan’s desire that
the fund support children’s programming in her memory at the Theatre.
Emile and Frances D’Anna Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Nursing
Frances D’Anna was a surgical nurse supervisor at Lallie Kemp Hospital, working as
a nurse for over thirty years. Emile D’Anna ‘50 , was an Animal Science major and
went on to work for the USDA on campus. Emile, Jr. ‘75 and his wife Linda ‘71, are
also Southeastern alums and endowed the scholarship in their memory.
Fritz “Tootsie” Darouse Endowed Scholarship
“Tootsie” was honored with a memorial scholarship endowed by his sister, Myra LaRue
‘42. Myra, a former Southeastern cheerleader, graduated with a degree in Health,
Safety and Physical Education and retired from teaching in the New Orleans public
schools. She endowed a number of scholarships at Southeastern, in various disciplines,
as part of her philanthropic endeavors benefiting the university.
Dora Sue Blackwell Shettles Daussat Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Dora Daussat was a member of the first LPN class at Charity School of Nursing in New
Orleans and inspired family members to become nurses, including her daughter, Doris
Shettles Lockerby and two granddaughters. Her daughter, Doris Lockerby, endowed the
scholarship in her mother’s memory to help a nursing student, preferably a single
parent, obtain a degree in nursing.
Dillon Davis Endowed Scholarship
Dillon Davis was a young boy who had leukemia. The Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity adopted
him as their poster person for their “Prisoner for Cancer” fundraiser. Upon Dillon’s
death in 2006, members of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity established the “Dillon Davis
Memorial Scholarship” in honor of this courageous little boy. Established in 2008,
The Dillon Davis Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who is also
a cancer survivor.
Dr. Margo Davis Scholarship
Dr. Margo Davis was a member of the Mathematics faculty at Southeastern. The scholarship
was endowed by her friends and faculty members in her honor to provide financial assistance
to an upperclassman majoring in Mathematics at Southeastern.
Erna Deiglmayr Endowed Scholarship
Erna was born in Belgium during World War I. She served as a social worker in Belgium
helping displaced persons after World War II and later moved to the United States
where she continued her humanitarian efforts. She lived in New Orleans for over 50
years becoming a friend to Southeastern over that period of time. Her scholarship
benefits a student majoring in Foreign Languages.
Paige DeJean Endowed Scholarship in Elementary Education
The scholarship was established by colleagues of Paige’s father in the Hammond Police
Department, along with friends and her family to perpetuate the dreams and spirit
of Paige DeJean who lost her life at a very young age. It will provide financial support
to a student attending Southeastern and majoring in Elementary Education.
Dr. J. Lincoln & Mrs. Mary Anne Goreau DeVillier Endowed Scholarship in Nursing
Dr. DeVillier ‘57 joined the US Army and served in WWII, where he was tended by military
nurses after being wounded. He enrolled at Southeastern at the age of 38, and earned
a BA in Business Education. He went on to receive an MBA from Tulane and a Ph.D. from
LSU, and began teaching at the University of West Georgia in the College of Business.
He never forgot the care he received from the nurses in Europe during WWII so he and
his wife, Mary Ann Goreau DeVillier ‘60, endowed a scholarship to benefit a nursing
student at Southeastern.
Bob DeViney Endowed Scholarship in Baseball
The scholarship was established by the friends of Bob Deviney. Bob, a ‘64 graduate
of Southeastern, was well known in political, civic and social circles in Jefferson
parish. The scholarship provides financial support to a baseball player.
Arthur and Esther DeVries Scholarship in Kinesiology and Health Studies
After enrolling in swim fitness classes at Southeastern in their 70’s, Arthur and
Esther DeVries established an endowment in Kinesiology and Health Studies. The scholarship
benefits a student majoring in Kinesiology or Health Studies.
Teresa and Roy Distefano and Edwina and Ottice Pool Endowed Scholarship in Communication
Sciences and Disorders
The scholarship was established by their son, Angelo Distefano ‘72 and daughter, Patricia
Pool Distefano ‘72 to provide financial assistance to a student majoring in a concentration
in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Michael H. DuBois Delta Tau Delta Endowed Scholarship
Mike DuBois ’71, a charter member of Southeastern Epsilon Phi Chapter of Delta Tau Delta fraternity,
established this scholarship for an active member.
Chander Kanta Dugal Endowed Scholarship in Finance
The scholarship was established in 2019 by Dr. Rakesh Duggal, professor of Finance
in the College of Business, in memory of his mother. The scholarship benefits a student
majoring in Finance.
Manuel Dugas Family Endowed Scholarship in Athletics (Football)
The scholarship was established by Manuel Dugas ‘51 and his family to support a Southeastern
Football player. Manuel played football at Southeastern from 1948-1951. The scholarship
benefits a student athlete from the River region playing football.
Sidney Paul Dugas Scholarship
Rob Dugas ‘86 and his wife Lesa met while both were students at Southeastern. They
endowed the scholarship in Rob’s father’s name as a surprise Father’s Day gift. Rob’s
younger years were spent in Hammond where his father, Sidney Paul Dugas ‘73, led the
Army ROTC program at Southeastern, later moving the family to Virginia. Rob returned
to Southeastern to earn a degree in Communications and is a Senior VP of Organizational
Strategy for Chic-fil-a. The scholarship provides assistance to a Supply Chain Management
student, with a preference for a cadet in the Southeastern ROTC program.
Bob Duhe, Terry King & Joe Abene Endowed Scholarship in Athletics (Football)
The scholarship was established by the three Allstate Insurance Agents to support
a Southeastern football player. Bob Duhe is a former Southeastern football player
who graduated in ‘72.
Mark Dugopolski Sophomore Award in Mathematics
Dr. Mark Dugopolski is Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Southeastern and has authored
a number of mathematics textbooks. Mark had a passion for showing students how mathematics
is used in the real world. He endowed the scholarship with royalties from his book
sales to assist Math or Math Education majors.
Dan Durham Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship was established by his wife, Nelie Dobson Durham ‘52, along with memorial
gifts from friends and family to support a student majoring in History. Dan Durham
was a well known Hammond businessman who was the owner and founder of Dixie Motors.
Deeply involved in civic affairs, Dan served as a President of the Hammond Chamber
of Commerce, on the Board of Florida Parishes Bank and on the President’s Advisory
Committee of a number of Southeastern Presidents.
Hunter Durham Memorial Scholarship in History
Hunter Durham ‘93 , ’02 was a Southeastern instructor from 2002-2005. The scholarship
was established by his brother Tracy Durham and other family, friends and colleagues
out of their deep love and admiration for the late faculty member in Southeastern’s
General Studies program. The scholarship provides financial support to Southeastern
History majors.
Richard and Mercedes Durham Endowed Scholarship in Accounting
The scholarship was established by Richard and Mercedes Durham ‘78. Dick was a well
known businessman in Hammond and the owner of Durham Autoplex. The scholarship provides
financial aid to a student majoring in accounting.
Rick Durham Family Endowed Scholarship in Athletics
The scholarship was established by Rick Durham, former owner and manager of Durham
Autoplex and his wife Liz ‘92. The scholarship benefits a student who participates
in one of Southeastern 10 athletics teams.
Major Kenneth E. Dyson Memorial Scholarship
Mrs. Vesta Dyson Schilling established the scholarship in memory of her brother, Major
Kenneth Dyson, who was killed in action during World War II. It was initiated in order
to provide financial assistance to a Southeastern pre-med student accepted to medical
school.
