Statement from Dr. Charlene Drew Jarvis, President of Southeastern University
July 3, 2008
The June 26, 2008 action of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) which placed Southeastern University in a "show cause" status contains good news and bad news. The good news is that the university will provide a November 2008 report to MSCHE instead of the August 1, 2008 and the October 15, 2008 reports. The university will be better able to concentrate on coming into compliance with MSCHE standards than focusing on report preparation.
The bad news is that the Commission has given us less time to come into compliance with those standards, November 2008 rather than March 2009.
However, the board and the entire university community have been engaged in addressing all of the Commission's standards, even those on which we have not been cited, Our goal is to demonstrate, through evidence, that the university is an effective institution with respect to its mission of providing students with an educational experience that prepares them for success in their careers and to produce students who are life-long learners in a competitive marketplace.
We extend our thanks to all of our internal and external stakeholders who have been involved in the process of compliance with our accreditor.
Dr. Charlene Drew Jarvis
President
