Statement distributed by e-mail to students about Southeastern University's Accreditation on Saturday, January 19, 2008:

Southeastern University has been placed on probation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). We remain accredited by MSCHE while on probation.

Over the next few weeks and months, you will be asked to engage in a number of focus groups that are geared at making sure that the University develops a mission that more accurately reflects our dedication and ability to serve you. We sincerely hope that you will consider engaging in this important process. We will also focus on ways to measure your achievements and learning outcomes, so you will experience new activity with your professors as well.

For the next two years, the University will operate a small number of online courses. This is a severe departure from the online activity that has occurred over the past few years. It will affect you and your ability to complete your programs. We will do our best to accommodate you, but it will no longer be possible to complete more than 50% of a degree or certificate program online.

We are consulting with our accreditors, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, to further determine the impact of recent actions that will affect current and former students. Once further communication has been received from them, all students that have taken online courses will receive specific communication from the University to further clarify this situation. After that point, the Office of Student Services and Academic Advising will be available for counseling. Copies of our reports to and from MSCHE, along with their standards of excellence and materials on learning assessment, will be placed on STARS for your review.

We apologize for any confusion that this may cause, and welcome questions and concerns.
