Faculty may request that the Library place library-owned or personal materials on
Reserve in the Circulation or Media Reserve departments. Print materials may also be put on the Electronic Reserve system if
they meet the guidelines listed below.
Print materials, articles, books, syllabi, class notes, etc. will be placed on reserve in the Reserve department on the 1st floor; all other materials including video tapes, computer disks, sound recordings and scores that accompany sound recordings will be placed on reserve in the Media department. Print materials, scanned for Electronic Reserves, will be available through the Library Catalog. A userID and password is required for access to the Electronic Reserve system.
Photocopies or electronic copies of excerpts from copyrighted works in the Library's collection or owned by the faculty member will be placed on reserve in accordance with the Library's Faculty Reserve Guidelines and Copyright Policies. These guidelines and policies are derived from the "Fair Use" provisions of the United States Copyright Act of 1976 (P.L. 94-553), the Model Policy Concerning College and University for Classroom, Research and Library Reserve Use published by the American Library Association, and the Draft document entitled "Fair-Use Guidelines for Electronic Reserve Systems" revised by CONFU participants in March 1996. It is the policy of the Library to exercise in good faith the full Fair-Use rights by faculty, librarians, and staff, in their teaching activities, while upholding the Copyright Laws of 1976, and to avoid, whenever possible, adopting or supporting policies or agreements that would restrict Fair-Use rights.
Sims Library participates in LALINC (Louisiana Academic Library Information Network
Consortium) with many academic libraries within the state. Through a Reciprocal Borrowing
Agreement, Southeastern faculty may check out materials from participating libraries
by presenting a LALINC card and Southeastern ID card. LALINC cards are available at

Materials including articles, books, scores, and theses that are not owned or not
available at Sims Library may be requested through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Faculty
must register through ILLiad, the interlibrary loan system, before requesting materials.
Access to ILLiad is available through the Library's web page at: http://www.selu.edu/library/directory/ill/. In order to expedite the processing of ILL requests, ILL forms should be completed
in full, including the date items are no longer needed and the amount the faculty
member is willing to pay ($0 is acceptable; some faculty may be able to charge materials
to a budget account). The library subsidizes faculty ILL requests up to $25.00/request.
Completed forms will be processed by the Interlibrary Loan Office on a "first come,
first served" basis. There is a limit of twenty outstanding requests at one time.
The ILL department will notify the faculty member when the material is received or
if there are any questions about the requests. ILL materials must be picked up in
the ILL department by the faculty member or other designated person. More information
about ILL policies is available on the Library's web page or by calling the ILL department at 549-5318.
Locked carrels for the use of faculty, and university staff who are currently taking
classes, are available in the library on the fourth floor. Each carrel is equipped
with a desk, chair, and electrical outlet.
The following policies and procedures have been adopted for use of these facilities:
