General Circulation Policies

Eligible Borrowers

  • A current Southeastern ID or Sims Library ID must be presented. 

  • All library users are responsible for returning their items on or before the due date in the same good condition as when it was checked out.

  • Each library user is responsible for each item until it is checked in by library staff.

Southeastern Faculty may authorize student employees to checkout Library materials to the Faculty’s account ONLY if the student presents a signed letter on university letterhead stating the full names and ID#’s of both parties, and the length of time the student is authorized to charge materials to the Faculty’s account. Both the student’s and faculty’s Southeastern ID’s must be presented at the time of checkout. Faculty will be responsible for all items checked out to their account and returned by their student employees.

Overdue Items—overdue 60 days or longer & not returned

  • $15 OVERDUE fine +
  • Current REPLACEMENT cost of book +
  • $20 PROCESSING fee  

Holds and Recalls

  • A library user may place a HOLD on an item currently checked out by another user so that the requestor will be notified upon its return.
  • A library user may place a RECALL on an item that is overdue, has been renewed, or has been checked out for 28 days or more.
  • Library users receiving a RECALL NOTICE must return the item(s) within 7 days.
  • Library users placing a HOLD or RECALL will be notified by email when the item is available for pickup.

Returning Materials

  • Library users are responsible for each item until it is checked in by library staff.
  • Library users can return general circulation collection materials to the Circulation Desk bookdrop or the outside bookdrop.
  • Library users can return reserve materials to the Reserve Desk or the outside bookdrop.
  • Media materials must be returned to the Media department window. Media materials must not be placed in any bookdrop. If media materials are not returned to the Media department, the library user may be responsible for the replacement cost of the item(s) until they are properly returned and discharged.
