With a small-town feel and personalized attention, Southeastern is often referred to as being like family. That's especially true for one current student.

Deanna Robertson is the seventh sister to attend the university where her parents also received their education – and fell in love after meeting in Pottle Hall. When Robertson graduates in May with a bachelor's degree in psychology, she will become the ninth in her immediate family to have earned an undergraduate degree from Southeastern.

Her family's Southeastern ties could not be overlooked several years ago when she was considering colleges.

"I was between two schools my senior year in high school, but I could not ignore the legacy of my parents at Southeastern as well as the programs that they offered," Robertson said.

The long line of alumni includes her parents, Eddie and Deborah Robertson, who participated in the university's marching band and graduated in 1979; her sister, Elizabeth Robertson Hornsby (2004) who also earned a master's degree at Southeastern and now serves as a professor in the Department of Communication and Media Studies; and her five other sisters, Stephanie Robertson (2006), Sarah Robertson Rakocy (2007), Cheryl Robertson (2009), Michelle Robertson (2010) and Melissa Robertson (2013).

"(Southeastern) has helped my family launch careers as educators, business women, a social worker, an illustrator and future psychologist. We are all very grateful for the education we received and the doors that have been opened from this university," Robertson said.
