Tuesday, December 3, 2013

Finals week is quickly approaching, which means many college students around the nation will spend hours studying and writing papers to complete their courses. Southeastern students might find it just a little easier to make it through their exams, thanks to a variety of stress-reducing activities scheduled through next week.

Exams start Monday, Dec. 9, but Southeastern is preparing students a week in advance by offering free study packs – filled with scantrons, pencils and other supplies – at the Student Appreciation Tailgate on Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union. Also on Wednesday, students can "De-stress at the Rec" from 8 p.m. to midnight with free chair massages, pizza, a hot chocolate bar, ping pong, basketball, study hall and more.

Before heading to their first final on Monday, students can stop by the Student Union to pick up a free sausage biscuit from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at SGA's "Granting Wishes with Sausage Biscuits" event, where donations for Make a Wish Foundation will be accepted. Also starting Monday, the Rec will offer free 10-minute massages, through Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, Dec. 10, students can pick up free snacks and scantrons in the Student Union, courtesy of SGA. Later that day, the annual "Late Night Breakfast" will be held at Cayman Café from 9 to 11 p.m. with faculty and staff volunteers serving up the late-night vittles. The event is free for students with a meal plan, and the cash price is $6.95. Lion's Lagniappe will also be accepted.

On Wednesday, Dec. 11, SGA will host "Reindeer Games" in the union from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where students can play games to win prizes donated by various departments. That evening, the Alumni Association will host a "Senior Salute" for graduating seniors at 5:30 p.m. in the union ballroom.
