 Tailgating at Southeastern

The festivities of Homecoming Week lead up to the annual parade through campus, tailgating in Friendship Circle and the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Southeastern is celebrating Homecoming Week with spirited activities and time-honored traditions Oct. 21 to 26. The university community is invited to participate in the week of festivities designed to welcome alumni and friends to campus.

Sponsored by FE-Lions, an organization of female fans who support Lion athletics, the theme of Homecoming 2013 is "From There to Here, From Here to There, Roomie Rhyming Everywhere." From tailgate decorating contests to children's activities, this year's theme guarantees a "Suesstastic" time.

Events are scheduled for students, faculty, alumni and the local community throughout the week. Favorites like Gumbo YaYa and the annual bonfire for students and the Lyceum Lights luncheon for faculty, as well as reunions for Southeastern alumni, are just a few of the festivities slated for Homecoming Week.

On Friday, Oct. 25, the Alumni Association will host the Alumni Awards Evening to recognize 2013 Alumnus of the Year Hamilton Mixon, former global security officer for Facebook and 1979 graduate of Southeastern, and 2013 Young Alumnus of the Year Samantha Perez, a 2010 graduate and author of "The Isleños of Louisiana: On the Water's Edge."

Homecoming culminates on Saturday, Oct. 26, with activities and tailgating for the whole family
in Friendship Circle, a parade at 3 p.m. and the Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. At halftime, the Homecoming Queen and King will be crowned. The ladies of the court – and other female fans – traditionally sport large golden mum corsages on Homecoming Day. Learn more about this year's Homecoming Queen and King Court.

Immediately after the game, the Downtown Development District will host an evening of shopping, dining and entertainment with participating downtown Hammond merchants.
