Featuring original cover art with special meaning to the university family, Southeastern’s annual student yearbook is now available

The 2015 edition of "Le Souvenir," Southeastern's annual student yearbook, is now available. Every student is entitled to a copy, which can be picked up at the Student Union, suite 1303, during regular university hours.

This year’s cover features an image of a lion sketched by Jeffery Lynn Kirk, the deceased son of Southeastern alumnus Peter Kirk and brother of alumnus Benjamin Kirk. The artwork was chosen by “Le Souvenir” editor-in-chief Fernanda Chagas following a chance encounter with Kirk’s mother, Lisa Kirk, who had kept the lion drawing in her possession following her son’s passing during his service with the U.S. Marine Corps in 2004.

“The theme of the yearbook is memories, which made the cover even more special. I am honored to have been given the opportunity to use this illustration,” Chagas said. “It was the last piece of the puzzle I’ve been working on for the past year.”

Kirk’s younger brother Benjamin graduated from Southeastern in May with a degree in accounting and is currently employed in the Northshore area.

“It took on a new meaning for me to see the artwork on my senior yearbook,” said (Benjamin) Kirk. “It made me feel proud to know that I’ll be able to look at it in the future, and it will have the good memories of my college experience and of my brother.”

Yearbooks also will be distributed at major events during the fall and spring semesters. The newest edition of the award-winning "Le Souvenir" has already made its way into the hands of the seniors who attended the fall Grad Fair event earlier this month.
