Spooktacular

Southeastern is getting spooky! Check out this fun list of family-friendly Halloween events scheduled on campus this week.

Octoberfest
Southeastern Housing and Dining will host Octoberfest for current students on Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Quad (Student Union East). The event will feature food, a DJ, face painting, costumes, games, prizes and free t-shirts for the first 100 students.

To participate, students can use one meal from their meal plan, pay with Lion's Lagniappe or Cub Cash or pay $9.54 with cash, credit or debit.

Ghost Chase 5K
Rec Sports will host the annual Ghost Chase 5K race at North Oak Park, located at 2699 North Oak St., on Thursday, Oct. 30. The race starts at 6 p.m. and is open to the public. The entry fee is $5, and the net proceeds will go to the United Way, a Southeastern-endorsed community philanthropy.

Spooktacular Concert and Costume Contest
Southeastern's Chamber Orchestra will host the annual Halloween concert and costume contest called "Spooktacular IV" on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts.

The kid-friendly concert will include costume contests in the age categories 12 and under and 13 and older. The orchestra will be in costume, and the audience – including those not participating in the contest – are encouraged to come in costume.

Following the concert, orchestra members will distribute candy in the lobby for all attendees.

General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens, Southeastern alumni, faculty and staff. Southeastern students with student identification and children under 12 accompanied by an adult are admitted free.

Fall Carnival and Trick or Treat with the Greeks
Area children are invited to participate in Southeastern's 10th annual Fall Carnival Friday, Oct. 31, from 5-7 p.m. The Office of Multicultural and International Student Affairs, the Black Student Union, and Recreational Sports and Wellness are sponsoring the event in conjunction with Trick or Treat with the Greeks, which is coordinated by the Office of Student Engagement.

Both events are scheduled at North Oak Park, located at 2699 North Oak St., and are free of charge.

This event is meant to provide safe alternatives to traditional neighborhood door-to-door trick-or-treating. Although children of all ages are invited to the festivities, the event targets children in kindergarten through fourth grade and will include games with prizes, candy, spacewalks, face painting, and much more. Parents and guardians are asked to accompany their children throughout the evening.

Trick or Treat at the Ballpark
Southeastern's baseball team will host Halloween activities at Alumni Field at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, before game two of the Heart of a Lion Fall World Series, which begins at 6:30 p.m. A home run derby, in which children in costume will be allowed to shag baseballs, will follow the team's batting practice. The family-friendly atmosphere with candy, decorations and music will provide a safe Trick-or-Treat alternative.
