Southeastern is getting spooky! Check out this fun list of family-friendly Halloween events scheduled on campus this week.

Oktoberfest
Southeastern Housing and Dining will host Oktoberfest for current students on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. outside the Student Union. The event will feature German barbecue, games, prizes and free t-shirts for the first 100 students. To participate, students must use one meal from their meal plan, pay with Lion’s Lagniappe or Cub Cash or pay $8.95 plus tax with cash, credit or debit.

Spooktacular Concert and Costume Contest
Southeastern’s Chamber Orchestra will host its annual Halloween concert and costume contest called "Spooktacular V" on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts.

The kid-friendly concert will include costume contests in the age categories 12 and under and 13 and older. The orchestra will be in costume, and the audience – including those not participating in the contest – are encouraged to come in costume.

Following the concert, orchestra members will distribute candy in the lobby for all attendees.

General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens, Southeastern alumni, faculty and staff. Southeastern students with student identification and children under 12 accompanied by an adult are admitted free.

Fall Carnival and Trick or Treat with the Greeks
Area children are invited to participate in Southeastern’s 11th annual Fall Carnival Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. The Office of Multicultural and International Student Affairs, the Black Student Union, and Recreational Sports and Wellness are sponsoring the event in conjunction with Trick or Treat with the Greeks, which is coordinated by the Office of Student Engagement.

Both events are scheduled on the lawn of Southeastern’s Pennington Student Activity Center, located at 1350 N. General Pershing, and are free of charge.

This events are meant to provide safe alternatives to traditional neighborhood door-to-door trick-or-treating. Although children of all ages are invited to the festivities, the event targets children in kindergarten through fourth grade and will include games with prizes, candy, spacewalks, face painting, and much more. Parents and guardians are asked to accompany their children throughout the evening.
