(1) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR) – Hammond native Wayne Brumfield, vice president for student affairs at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, center, was honored as the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Arts Humanities and Social Science’s Alumnus of the Year at the college’s April 25 honors convocation. Congratulating him are President Randy Moffett, left, and Alumni Association Board of Directors member C. Howard Nichols.

(5) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (WASHINGTON) – Southeastern Louisiana University students from Washington Parish were among the award winners at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences’ April 25 honors convocation.      HAMMOND – Kristen M. Rodrigue, a criminal justice major from Slidell, was the recipient of the 2007 Dean's Award, the top honor of Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

     Rodrigue, who also received the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice’s Roy E Hyde Award, was among the students recognized at the college’s annual honors convocation on April 25.

     The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences also joined its sister colleges at Southeastern in recognizing an outstanding alumnus. Wayne Brumfield, who was the first African-American student to receive a master’s degree in history from Southeastern in 1986, is vice president for student affairs at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

     A native of Hammond, Brumfield received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and doctorate from Louisiana State University. He previously worked in the admissions and recruitment fields at Southeastern, Louisiana State University at Eunice and Southern University.

     Also at the honors convocation, the college presented departmental awards and scholarships to:

     BATON ROUGE – Catherine Lawrence, Outstanding Graduating Senior in French.

     BOGALUSA – Sarah Davis, Visual Arts Department Best in Show Award.

     COVINGTON – Sherman FitzSimons, Outstanding Major in Liberal Arts Studies; Emily Stokes, James Wilcox Award in Music for Outstanding Graduating Senior in Music.

     DENHAM SPRINGS – Blanca Vallejo, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Spanish.

     FRANKLINTON – Lucinda A. Parker, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Communication; Cara Williams, Ralph R. Pottle Sr. Honor Scholarship for Outstanding Freshman Music Major.

     HAMMOND – Jennefer Renee Beyl, Martina Buck Award in History; Michael Gant, Undergraduate Academic Achievement Award in Psychology.

     MANDEVILLE – Sarah Estey-Teal, Outstanding Major in English.

     PONCHATOULA – Elizabeth Rollins, D Vickers Award for Creative Writing.

     SLIDELL – Michelle M. West, Harold Leu Award in Political Science.
