Four-week financial planning program for Livingston Parish high school students, parents

     HAMMOND – The Livingston Parish Literacy and Technology Center will host a free financial planning program for high school students and their parents during August.

     The four-week program begins Thursday, Aug. 9, at the center, 9261 Florida Blvd. in Walker. Sessions will be held each Thursday evening, 6:30-8 p.m., throughout the month.

     Shannon Bernard with Primerica Financial Services will lead the sessions, utilizing materials and curricula provided by National Endowment for Financial Education, said Joan Gunter, director of Southeastern Louisiana University programming at the Livingston Center.

     “The program is designed to put your child on the right track to lifelong financial success and is part of our overall Community Education Program at the Center,” said Gunter.

     Session topics are “Your Financial Plan,” Aug. 9; “Budgeting,” Aug. 16; “Using Credit Wisely-Godd Debt/Bad Debt,” Aug. 23 and “Investing,” Aug. 30.

     In addition to high school students and parents, the program is open to adults over age 18.
