HAMMOND – Thanks to a new “open registration” policy, eligible students have extra time to register for fall 2007 classes at Southeastern Louisiana University. They can now change or sign up for their classes anytime until the early fee payment deadline -- Friday, Aug. 10, 4:30 p.m., said Stephen Soutullo, dean of enrollment management.

Previously, students who pre-registered for fall classes would not have been able to change their class schedules until a special Aug. 7-10 “drop/add” period. And students not yet signed up would have had to wait until final registration, Aug. 13-17.

The open registration period has been instituted on a trial basis, said Soutullo.

“It is open to all students who are eligible to return to the university,” he said. “Continuing students who pre-registered for classes may alter their schedules, and current students, continuing students, and new upperclass and graduate students who have not yet registered may do so, as long as all registration holds have been removed.”

Students could have holds, which block them from accessing the online registration system, because they have outstanding fee balances or fines, or because they need to complete academic advising or developmental course requirements.

“Availability of academic advising and removal of advising holds varies among academic departments and is generally provided by appointment,” Soutullo said. “Students who need advising should contact their departments to make an advising appointment before attempting to access the registration system.”

New beginning freshmen and transfer freshmen who did not attend a required freshman orientation program this summer will not be eligible to register during open registration. They will register during the final orientation program, scheduled Aug. 13-14.

Eligible students can register online by clicking on the "LEONet" link on the university's home page, www.selu.edu, and logging into the university's intranet at the “LEONet-Students” link.

Soutullo said email notices and other communications are going out to students notifying them of the new open registration hours.

He said students who are registered for fall 2007 classes must pay all university fees by the 4:30 p.m., Aug. 10, early fee payment deadline.

Also, students who pre-registered for classes but do not intend to enroll this fall must drop all their classes by that date. Soutullo said students are responsible for paying tuition and fees for any courses that remain on their schedule after the final fee payment deadline.

Students who need assistance with dropping classes, cancelling enrollment or accessing the registration system may contact the Records and Registration Office at 1-800-222-SELU or 985-549-2066.

Soutullo said all students will be eligible to make final adjustments to their schedules during the final registration period, Aug. 13-16. Students will not be able to change their schedules once fall semester classes begin on August 20 without approval from their academic dean.

Aug. 1 is the final day for students to apply for admission for the fall 2007 semester. Students can apply for admission online at www.selu.edu. For additional information, contact the Office of Admissions at 985-549-5637, 1-800-222-SELU or admissions@selu.edu.
