HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Red Stick and Former Players alumni chapters are hosting the seventh annual Coaches Memorial Scholarship Scramble on March 29.  Held at Greystone Golf Club in Denham Springs, the three-man handicap scramble tournament will begin with registration and lunch at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon.

“This year’s tournament will provide fun for all participants and will honor DeWayne ‘Beetle’ Bailey,” said Nicholas Locascio, assistant director of the Southeastern Alumni Association.

A 1968 Southeastern graduate, Bailey spent 19 years at Denham Springs High School where he served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal. He then served as an assistant baseball coach to Skip Bertman at LSU for eight years and moved to LSU athletic administration in 1995 as assistant athletic director before retiring in 2001.

Coach Bailey also founded the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association, served as past president and executive director, and became the first member inducted into the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2003.

Tournament prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place teams in net and gross divisions, as well as prizes for longest drive and closest to the hole Locascio added.

The entry fee for the tournament is $150 per player. Additional sponsorship opportunities available are corporate sponsorships, which include a three-man team and tee box signage for $500, and tee box sponsorships for $150 each.  Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Coaches Memorial Scholarship.

Players can register on line at www.selu.edu/alumni. For more information contact the Southeastern Alumni Association at 1-800-SLU-ALUM or Ken Kenelly at 225-752-8888.
