Their winning project, “Career vs. Motherhood,” qualified for the top prize by taking first place in the sociology category.


     HAMMOND ‑‑ Winners of the annual Region VIII Social Studies Fair, hosted March 14 by Southeastern Louisiana University, have been announced.

Grand prize winners for individual and group projects were chosen in three divisions, Division I (grades 4‑6), Division II (grades 7‑8), and Division III (grades 9‑12). They will advance to the state Social Studies Fair at Louisiana State University.

DIVISION I

     INDIVIDUAL -- Grand Prize: Shelby Bryan, Cedarwood School, “Conflict Diamonds”; Runner-up: Lauren Taylor, Southeastern Lab School, “Most Common Household Pets.”

     GROUP: Grand Prize: Evan McGraw, Marc Reagan, Cedarwood School, “Bioterrorism: A Worldwide Threat”; Runner-up: Everett Myers and Brandon LeBlanc, Our Lady of the Lake School, “Al Capone: The Lap of Luxury?”
