(1) FIRST PKP SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT – Heather Marie Lambert of Pearl River, center, is the recipient of the Southeastern Louisiana University Phi Kappa Phi Endowed Scholarship, established last year by the chapter of the national honor society to honor its 50th anniversary. Lambert, an accounting major with a 4.0 grade point average, was announced as the first recipient of the scholarship at the chapter’s annual banquet on May 2. (13) SOUTHEASTERN PHI KAPPA PHI INITIATES (SUMMIT) -- Cynthia Lynell Butler of Summit, Miss., was among the Southeastern Louisiana University students from Mississippi recently inducted into the university’s chapter of the prestigious national honor society Phi Kappa Phi.

 

(14) SOUTHEASTERN PHI KAPPA PHI INITIATES (KINGSTON) – Craig Alton Thomas of Kingston, Jamaica, was among 69 Southeastern Louisiana University students and faculty recently inducted into the university’s chapter of the prestigious national honor society Phi Kappa Phi.


     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University has inducted 69 graduate and undergraduate students and faculty into its chapter of the prestigious national honor society, Phi Kappa Phi.

     To be considered for membership in Phi Kappa Phi, a student must be in the top 10 percent of the senior or graduate class or a second-semester junior in the top 7.5 percent of his/her class. Sound character is a supporting criterion. Faculty and alumni are chosen for outstanding contributions to their fields.

     At the chapter’s annual induction banquet May 2, Southeastern Phi Kappa Phi honored 2002 graduate Albert J. “Snapper” Poche, a biology major originally from Ponchatoula now residing in Chicago. He is one of 60 national recipients of a $5,000 fellowship for post-graduate study by the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

     The honors organization also presented the Phi Kappa Phi Endowed Scholarship, established last year in honor of the chapter’s 50th anniversary, to Heather Marie Lambert, an accounting major from Pearl River. 

     The honors organization recognized as Outstanding Juniors psychology major Mary Elizabeth Maat of Slidell, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; accounting major Kerrie Rhody of Ponchatoula, College of Business; elementary education major Keri Lynn Cognevich of Slidell, College of Education and Human Development; nursing major Ashley Sabrier of Mandeville, College of Nursing and Health Sciences; biology major Muriel Martinez of Kenner, College of Science and Technology; and general studies major Erica Ogden of Meraux, Division of General Studies.

     The chapter’s Outstanding Freshman Award went to biology and Spanish major John Eric Tiley of Hammond, while Haley Echlin, a biology major from Clinton, received the Outstanding Honor Student award.
