HAMMOND – A meeting is scheduled for Sept. 18 at Southeastern Louisiana University for area adults interested in participating in a new Northshore Community Band.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in room 167A of the Pottle Music Building Annex. The ensemble will be organized and directed by Jerry Voorhees, Professor Emeritus of Music at Southeastern. Participation is free.

“Our band will be especially designed for amateur adult musicians who may otherwise have limited occasions and opportunities for group performance,” said Voorhees. He said he has already received a number of calls from interested community members.

Voorhees said the band is particularly interested in attracting musicians who perform on the flute/piccolo, oboe, clarinet/bass clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet/cornet, trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba, and traditional percussion.

Details about the rehearsal schedule, specific instrumentation and repertoire will be discussed at the meeting. For further information contact Voorhees at (985) 345-4537.
