HAMMONDSoutheastern Louisiana University and the Hammond Wal-Mart Supercenter are teaming up to sell Wal-Mart’s line of specially designed Southeastern merchandise just in time for Lion football.

Southeastern will unveil the new partnership with a celebration at the Hammond Wal-Mart Sunday, Aug. 17, from 1:30 – 3 p.m. The public is invited to join in the spirited fun, including performances by the Southeastern cheerleaders and Lionettes, an appearance by the university’s lion mascot Roomie and free refreshments.

Merchandise to be featured in Wal-Mart’s “Lion’s Den” area will include Southeastern apparel, decals, flags, tumblers, ties, key chains and more.

“Wal-Mart and our north shore businesses are great supporters of Southeastern. We are excited that Wal-Mart is offering a great array of Southeastern apparel and merchandise to all of our fans,” said Southeastern Community Liaison Leigh Ann Lanaux. “This is a perfect opportunity to gear up for football season – our first home game is Sept. 13. Let’s turn this region green and gold.”

On the heels of the grand opening are Southeastern Fan Day and the Division of Student Affairs’ annual “Strawberry Jam.” Scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 19, in Strawberry Stadium, the event will launch the new school year and preview Lions football for both students and the community.

Southeastern’s Spirit of the Southland marching band and cheerleaders will open the event by parading from Greek Village to the stadium at 6 p.m. Events in the stadium will include a performance by the popular band Phat Hat, free food, soft drinks and giveaways.

Southeastern fans will also hear comments from Head Football Coach Mike Lucas, who will introduce members of the 2008 football team. Younger fans can don their favorite Lion jersey for a picture with Roomie.
