HAMMOND – The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University will host a breakfast reception on Friday (June 6) to welcome Michael Ricks, recently named U.S. Small Business Administration District Director for Louisiana.

The reception is scheduled for 8-9 a.m. at Southeastern’s Southeast Louisiana Business Center, 1514 Martens Drive in Hammond. Area business owners, economic development professionals, and others interested in the status of small businesses in Louisiana are invited to attend the reception. Ricks will also meet with members of the banking community at a special roundtable following the reception.

Ricks will oversee SBA’s field offices in Louisiana, report to senior management on the state’s small business environment, and carry out Administrator Steve Preston’s directive to create a more results-driven agency. A critical responsibility will be to ensure that small businesses, homeowners and renters continue to receive timely, efficient SBA assistance as they rebuild from the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricanes.

Ricks served as SBA’s Alabama district director since May 2004. Previously, he was a program manager for advanced technology and production readiness projects for the U.S. Marine Corps in the Washington, D.C. area. He has also served as a defense acquisition officer in early program concept development for the Army Infantry Center at Ft. Benning.
A former small business entrepreneur, Ricks operated a software development, business process and information systems consulting firm in central Florida for three years.
