(7) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS) Southeastern Louisiana University students were honored recently at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences’ April 30 honors convocation.  Among the winners were two international students. HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences recognized its outstanding faculty and students at its 2008 honors convocation April 30.

     The college presented special honors to outstanding faculty for 2007-2008 to Jeff Wiemelt, associate professor of English, excellence in teaching; Ken Boulton, assistant professor of music and dramatic arts, excellence in artistic activity; Jim Walter, professor of English, excellence in research, and Bonnie Lewis, professor of sociology and criminal justice, excellence in faculty service. The 2006-2007 recipients were also recognized -- Norman German, professor of English professor, excellence in teaching, and Glen Hemberger, associate professor of music and dramatic arts, excellence in artistic activity.

     The college named as its outstanding alumnus J. Neil Bearden, who graduated from Southeastern with a degree in psychology in 1997 and is now assistant research professor in the Department of Management and Organizations at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management.

     Also at the honors convocation, the college presented departmental awards and scholarships to:

     AMITE – Gregory Esteven, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Sociology; Jacob Warren,

Outstanding Graduating Senior in Spanish.

     COVINGTON – Rachel Cedor, Outstanding Senior in Liberal Arts Studies; Kristen Hilliard, James Wilcox Award in Music for Outstanding Graduating Senior in Music; Gail McWilliams, Erna Deiglmayr Scholarship in Foreign Languages and Literature; and Erich Tanner, D Vickers Award for Creative Writing.

     GREENWELL SPRINGS – Dwight Hudson, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Criminal Justice.

     INDEPENDENCE – Lacey Gulotta, Outstanding Graduating Senior in English.

     LAPLACE – Michelle Duhe, Harold Leu Award in Political Science and Lindsey Marshall, Martina Buck Award in History.

     MANDEVILLE – Heidi Elbers, Outstanding Senior Visual Arts Award in Painting.

     PONCHATOULA – Stephen Abadie, Outstanding Senior Visual Arts Award in Sculpture; Rachel Carazo, Martina Buck Award in History; Jessica Cressionnie, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Communication; and Casey Hoover, Outstanding Graduating Senior in French.

     SLIDELL – Mary Maat, Southeastern Louisiana University Psychology Award.

     SERBIA – Ivana Vasic, Outstanding Senior Visual Arts Award in Digital Design.

     UKRAINE – Yana Obolenskaya, Ralph R. Pottle Sr. Honor Scholarship for Outstanding Freshman Music Major.
