HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Small Business Development Center, St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation, and Louisiana Procurement Technical Assistance Center are presenting two free seminars concerning government contracts in June.

The seminars will be held at Southeastern’s St. Tammany Center, located on the third floor of the St. Tammany Parish government complex, 21354 Koop Drive. “Obtaining and Managing a Government Construction Contract” will be held on June 17, while “Preparing Your Cost or Price Proposal” will be the topic on June 18.

Both seminars are scheduled from 9-11 a.m.; pre-registration is preferred.

The government construction contract seminar focus will be on the “real world” of construction contracting, said SBDC Assistant Director Sandy Summers. “Topics will include the current policies and procedures mandated under construction contracts,” she said. “We want to show the small business community how to be competitive and succeed in the construction-contracting marketplace.”

Participants will learn from experts regarding the specifics in a construction solicitation such as protocol with policies and procedures, acknowledging special contracting requirements, accessing differing site conditions, adhering to performance evaluations, understanding claims and contract administration procedures. They will also receive information on the Davis Bacon and Service Contract Acts, be introduced to bonding information with the state, and receive reference materials.

The June 18 seminar will cover a variety of topics related to preparing cost and price proposals, such as the two basic groups of contracts, types of specifications, bid, proposal, labor and cost elements, payroll expenses, fringe benefits, holiday pay and labor hours, direct and indirect costs, reasonable profit, contract price and unallowable costs.

For more information or to register please contact the Southeastern Small Business Development Center at (985) 549-3831 or sbdc@selu.edu.
