Gunter named assistant vice president for extended studies

     HAMMOND – Joan Gunter, who has served for two years as Southeastern Louisiana University’s program director at the Livingston Parish Literacy and Technology Center in Walker, has been appointed the university’s assistant vice president for extended studies.

     Her position will oversee off-campus programming, including programming at the St. Tammany Center and the Livingston Parish Literacy and Technology Center. Additionally, she is charged with enhancing online course offerings, summer programs and workforce development and training initiatives.

     “Ms. Gunter brings to this position significant management experience and skill in higher education administration and has demonstrated her effectiveness in working with both campus and community constituents,” said Southeastern Interim President John L. Crain. “She will play an important role as we look toward expanding the services of this office.”

     Gunter came to Southeastern in 2006 after having worked as director of operations and student services since 2004 for The Apollo Group’s University of Phoenix campuses in Metairie, Baton Rouge and Lafayette. She also has worked as a loan originator and in public relations and marketing for Resource One Mortgage Group, Inc. of Baton Rouge.

     A resident of Pine Grove, she holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Providence College in Providence, R.I.
