HAMMOND – Allyson O’Keefe, photo editor of Southeastern Louisiana University’s student newspaper The Lion’s Roar and editor of the student yearbook Le Souvenir, has been selected as a finalist in Serbin Communications’ 28th Annual Spring Photography Contest, co-sponsored by Canon and Photographer’s Forum magazine.

O’Keefe was one of 3,000 amateur photographers from the United States, Canada and around the world who submitted their work to the contest. As a finalist, her work will be featured in The Best of Photography Annual 2008.

A native of Metairie, O’Keefe earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southeastern in 2006 and is currently pursuing a second degree in visual arts with a concentration in digital design.

“Every time I look at Ally’s photos I am truly amazed,” said Lorraine Favre, coordinator for the Office of Student Publications. “The publications that the students in our department create benefit greatly from Ally’s work. She always gets that shot that helps make a story more powerful.”

“Ally is a wonderful and talented person to work with,” said Tracy Valentine, editor-in-chief of The Lion’s Roar. “I am very happy that she has been named a finalist because she definitely deserves it. She is a very hard worker and it is great to see her hard work acknowledged.”

O’Keefe was a finalist in Serbin Communications’ Annual Student Photography Contest in 2007 and 2008, and her work was featured in The Best of College Annual Photography publication.

Judges for the Spring Photography Contest were Steve LaVoie of the Art Center College of Design, Douglas Peck of DeAnza College and Linda Lowell of Santa Barbara College.

The Best of Photography Annual 2008 will be published in mid-December.
