HAMMOND – Area businesses affected by Hurricane Gustav that need access to computers or the Internet can get assistance from the Southeast Louisiana Business Center at 1514 Martens Drive in Hammond.

Operated by Southeastern Louisiana University, the center has set aside a bank of computers for use by businesses needing to process payroll or other functions, said Director William Joubert.

He said the building and its adjacent parking lot also are equipped to offer wireless Internet if business representatives just need to briefly stop and check e-mail or perform other simple operations.

“We offered this service during Hurricane Katrina, and it was greatly appreciated by area businesses,” Joubert said. “Obviously we’re not facing the same amount of damage following Gustav, but there are still pockets in the area that lack electrical power and Internet access. We’re glad to be able to provide the assistance.”
