Public meeting set Sept. 23 for presidential search

     HAMMOND – The University of Louisiana System search committee charged with finding the next president of Southeastern Louisiana University will hold a public hearing on the Hammond campus on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

     The hearing, designed to solicit public input on the desired characteristics, qualifications and priorities of the next president, will be held at the Southeastern Alumni Center, 500 W. University Ave.

     The search committee will meet prior to the public hearing at 11 a.m. That meeting is also open to the public. The meeting agenda is posted on a special search section of the UL System Web site, www.ulsystem.edu.

     UL System Board Chair Elsie Burkhalter has appointed a 10-member search committee. In addition to Burkhalter, UL System Board members serving as voting members on the committee include Andre Coudrain of Hammond, Russell Mosely of Baton Rouge, Wayne Parker of Ruston, Winfred Sibille of Sunset and student member Morgan Verrette of Lake Charles.  Also serving as a voting member is Southeastern Faculty Senate representative Joseph Burns, associate professor of communication.

     Serving in a non-voting advisory capacity are Southeastern Student Government Association President Zealon Solomon and community representative Daryl Ferrara, who was selected by the Hammond Chamber of Commerce. UL System President Randy Moffett serves as the non-voting chair of the committee.
