HAMMOND – Mammoth dinosaurs will once again roam the Earth when Southeastern Louisiana University’s Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts presents the Hudson Vagabond Puppets’ “Mammoth Follies,” the second of two “Pajamas and Play” performances for its youngest fans, on April 22.
Donna Gay Anderson, director of Columbia Theatre, explained that “Pajamas and Play” is a fun series designed to make theater performances accessible and appealing for children.  Kids are invited to wear their pajamas, robes and slippers to the 60-minute, mid-week performance.
“All children love bedtime stories.  That’s what this is – only live!” Anderson said. “We even send the kids home with cookies and milk.  Parents, all you’ll have to do is tuck them in.”
With a kid-friendly curtain time of 7 p.m., “Mammoth Follies” explores prehistoric wonders in an old-fashioned revue of original songs, witty jokes and Earth-smashing dances performed by giant dinosaur puppets.
The acclaimed Hudson Vagabond Puppets, which brought its “Mammoth Dinosaur Follies” to Fanfare in 1996, uses the traditional Japanese Bunraku style of puppetry, becoming mere shadows of the enormous figures they bring to life.
In a musical trip through pre-history, the show features host Willie Mammoth, Smiley the Saber-Toothed Tiger, Bessie the 26-foot long Apatosaurus, Tony and Trixie Triceratops, Terry the Pterodactyl and the 11-foot tall T-Rex.
Tickets for “Mammoth Follies” are $12 for children ages 10 and under and $15 for adults. Tickets and information are available at the Columbia Theatre box office, 985-543-4371, or at www.columbiatheatre.org. Box office hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday and one hour before performance times.
