HAMMOND – Just in time for the holiday gift-giving season, the second edition of “Backdoor to the Gulf,” a history of the Manchac Swamp, is now available at area vendors.
Written by Southeastern Louisiana University historians Roman Heleniak and Charles A. Dranguet, “Backdoor to the Gulf” is the result of 20 years of research on the economic, cultural and military history of the Pass Manchac region. Research included oral interviews with Manchac Swamp residents, shrimpers, crabbers and commercial fishermen.
The book, a perennial holiday favorite for outdoorsmen and history buffs of southeast Louisiana, is available at Bayou Booksellers in downtown Hammond, at the Southeastern bookstore and through the university’s Department of History and Political Science in Fayard Hall.
Proceeds from book sales are dedicated to the Department of History and Political Science Scholarship program.
