HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University is one of 16 sites statewide hosting “College Goal Sunday 2009” on Feb. 15.

The free informational event, scheduled for 2-4 p.m. in  room 101 of Fayard Hall, is for all Louisiana high school seniors, their families and also adults who need financial aid assistance for post-secondary education.

Financial aid professionals will be on hand to help participants complete the FAFSA (“Free Application for Federal Student Aid”) -- the paperwork that is necessary to get funding for college.

“To apply for state aid such as the TOPS program or Go Grant, and federal aid such as Pell Grants, Federal Work-Study or loans, you must complete the FAFSA,” Southeastern Financial Aid’s Tara LaBorde said. “Applying for financial aid can be confusing. Southeastern Financial Aid staff will explain the forms line-by-line, and computer labs will be open so that the electronic FAFSA can be completed and submitted on site.”

She said admissions criteria and other information will also be available.

Participants can register for College Goal Sunday through a button on Southeastern’s website, www.selu.edu or by visiting the Louisiana College Goal Sunday website, www.osfa.la.gov/CollegeGoalSunday.shtml. The College Goal Sunday website also includes important information about what participants should bring if they want to file the FAFSA application on site.
