HAMMONDSoutheastern Louisiana University’s award-winning theatre program has announced the cast for its spring production of “The Servant of Two Masters,” a play adapted by Anne and Stuart Vaughan.

“The Servant of Two Masters,” part of the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts Encore! 2009 performing arts series, is scheduled Feb. 18-21, 7:30 p.m., at Vonnie Borden Theatre.

“I am excited to direct this translation of ‘The Servant of Two Masters’ because it’s very accessible to a modern audience,” said Chad Winters, Southeastern theater instructor and director of the production.

“The play at heart is a farce and very funny. A lot of the translations I’ve read appear to miss some of the jokes,” Winters said. “My mentor, Stuart Vaughan, provided me with this translation, which is a lot less wordy, allowing the humor to really shine.”

The play follows the servant Truffaldino as he attempts the impossible task of serving two masters at the same time to win his freedom and the love of his life, Winters added. This adaptation brings the stock characters, old gags and slapstick comedy to a modern audience in a silly, freshly funny night of theatre.

Cast members are Shawn Curry, Luling, as Truffaldino; Corey Jenkins, Lacombe, as waiter two and porter two; Rachel Johnson, Mandeville, as Beatrice; Wade Kerr, French Settlement, as Doctor; Matt Kozel, Ponchatoula, as Pantalnoe; Sarah Levesque, Gonzales, as Clarice; Jaren Mitchell, New Orleans, as Silvio; Marjorie Parker, New Orleans, as Smeraldina; and Charles Pineda, Covington, as Florindo. Alicia Hanley of Baton Rouge will serve as stage manager for the production.

Tickets -- $10, adults; $5, senior citizens, faculty, staff, alumni, and non-Southeastern students – will be available at the theater box office in D Vickers Hall. Southeastern students are admitted free with their university I.D.
