(4) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (LIVINGSTON) – Sarah Easterly of Denham Springs was the recipient of the Outstanding Graduating Senior in Sociology award at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences’ April 29 honors convocation.

 

(5) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (BATON ROUGE) – Alicia Hanley of Baton Rouge was the recipient of the Outstanding Senior in Liberal Arts Studies award at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences’ April 29 honors convocation.

 

(6) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (BATON ROUGE) – Mechelle Rouchon of Clinton was the recipient of the Outstanding Senior in English award at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences’ April 29 honors convocation.

 

(7) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (LAPLACE) – Two Southeastern Louisiana University students from LaPlace were among those honored April 29 at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences’ honors convocation. Angela Broussard, left, was named Outstanding Graduating Senior in Communication, and Erin Elizabeth Triche received the Outstanding Graduating Senior in French award.

 

(8) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (FRANKLINTON) – Vocal performance major Cara Williams of Franklinton was recognized at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences’ honors convocation for being named the college’s Outstanding Junior by Southeastern’s chapter of the National Honors Society of Phi Kappa Phi.


     HAMMOND Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences honored top graduates and its 2009 alumnus of the year at its annual honors convocation April 29.

     Mezzo-soprano Daveda Karanas, a 2003 Southeastern graduate, was given the college’s top alumni honor. Karanas, a native of Mandeville, was one of five winners of last year’s Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, considered the most prestigious voice competition in North America for singers seeking to launch an operatic career. Karanas, who earned her master’s degree at Arizona State University, currently resides in San Francisco, where she performs with the San Francisco Opera.
      
Also at the honors convocation, the college honored faculty members Katherine Kolb, foreign languages; Sean Alan Marsh, English; and Margaret Gonzalez-Perez, history and political sciences, for excellence in research, artistic activity and faculty service, respectively.

      The college honored inductees into the Thirteen Club, the university’s honor society, and the President’s List, Dean’s List, and Honors Roll students. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi also recognized vocal performance major Cara Williams of Franklinton for being named the college’s Outstanding Junior.

     BATON ROUGE – Alicia Hanley, Outstanding Senior in Liberal Arts Studies

     CLINTON – Mechelle Rouchon, Outstanding Senior in English

     DENHAM SPRINGS – Sarah Easterly, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Sociology

     FOLSOM – Maria Justiniano, Department of Visual Arts Best in Show - Design Award.

     HAMMOND – Jane Frances Rownd, James Wilcox Award in Music; Lillia Oliinyk, Ralph R. Pottle Honor Scholarship (for outstanding freshman in music)

     LAPLACE – Angela Broussard, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Communication; Erin Elizabeth Triche, Outstanding Graduating Senior in French

     MANDEVILLE – Christina Schayer, Department of Visual Arts Best in Show Award

     PONCHATOULA – Barry W. Mince Jr., Outstanding Graduating Senior in Criminal Justice

     PRAIRIEVILLE – Sarah Vosburg, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Communication

     SLIDELL – Lauren Winkler, D Vickers Award for Creative Writing; Hannah Locke, Southeastern Louisiana University Psychology Award

     TICKFAW – Mirjam Ursula Mitchell, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Spanish

     VACHERIE – Katie Gravois, Harold Leu Award in Political Science.
